“Retirees say health is the #1 ingredient for a happy retirement. Boomers have adopted a more empowered, proactive approach to health during every stage of their lives and have helped drive the fitness movement . . . and are more empowered healthcare consumers.”

The changing older adult demographic and healthcare’s new outcome-driven demands create opportunities for senior living and rehabilitation providers to differentiate and excel with unique strength training and wellness initiatives. With HUR, organizations are equipped to implement a results-based wellness initiative that is data driven.

“We've had a 75% increase in residents using the fitness center! The residents love how easy the equipment is to use and that they can move through the entire strength training circuit in 15 minutes.  Our residents are busy, engaged in activities at Fuller Village as well as out in the community. They love that they don't have to spend hours in a gym to get results and feel good.”

~Jen DeLeonardis, Fitness & Wellness Director at Fuller Village

Increase Wellness Participation

HUR SmartTouch is a computerized exercise and operating solution that empowers and motivates seniors to train often and with maximum effectiveness while automatically tracking individual and program data. With one swipe of a wristband, the machine automatically loads the senior’s personalized exercise program and adjusts the seat, sets arm/leg positions, and loads resistance settings. The program counts the repetitions, records progress, and provides an auditory prompt when the exercise is complete.

HUR makes independent training less intimidating for seniors, empowering and motivating them to take charge of their health with enhanced compliance and engagement.

Optimize Staff Efficiency

HUR’s technology offers an easy way for wellness teams to create and manage clients’ training programs, monitor individual progress, and track outcomes across time and peer groups - all from one friendly computer interface. Seniors are empowered to safely train independently, freeing staff from mundane tasks (such as attendance tracking) to spend more time on personal training, wellness classes, or other important care functions.

"Just three months after beginning circuit training on HUR, his physician said he no longer needs medical insulin.  Now, he keeps up his twice weekly workouts and volunteers at the fitness center helping others."

~Jen Wunderlick, Fitness Center Coordinator at VINE, a nonprofit adult community center

Improve Disease Management

Strength training can be a crucial component to disease management. Some of the many benefits include:

  • Slowing physiologic changes of aging
  • Optimizing age-related changes in body composition
  • Promoting psychological and social well-being
  • Managing chronic disease
  • Reducing risk of physical disability
  • Increasing longevity
  • Increasing bone mass
  • Reducing chance of developing osteoarthritis

With HUR’s solutions, you can help your residents combat chronic disease, improve their quality of life, and avoid injuries.

“Before the HUR SmartBalance, we had limited means for identifying members who were at risk for a fall until they fell. Information is power and the most valuable information we have to support the safety and well-being of our members comes from the HUR SmartBalance.”

Carmine Arpaia, Fitness Manager at Peconic Landing

Reduce Falls

Strength and balance training can dramatically help decrease the number of falls and resulting injuries in older adults.

HUR SmartBalance is the perfect tool for accessing balance and identifying users who have a high risk of falling or directional weakness. Customized training recommendations are provided to assist in implementing fall prevention and balance training programs. HUR SmartBalance allows operators to implement a fall reduction program that is results-based and data-driven.

Studies have shown that a progressive resistance training program using HUR equipment, plus balance exercises, have reduced the rate of falls by 55%. Check out our clinical summary on Progressive Resistance and Balance Training for Falls Prevention in Long-Term Residential Aged Care Facilities for more information.

“We've added about 20 - 30 people to our waiting list and experienced a 50% decrease in the time it takes to sell an available unit. Having a strong wait list also helps promote Fuller Village in the community and decreases the time it takes to return the previous residents refundable entrance fee.”

Andrea Doherty, Marketing & Operations Director of Fuller Village

By offering HUR-powered training solutions, you may increase occupancy rates, reduce turnover, and increase revenue.

Increase Lengths-of-Stay

Strength Training is Key for Older Adults. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) concurs, stating: “Strength training is just what older bodies need to fight the loss of muscle mass and strength."

Our unique natural transmission system combined with pneumatic (air-resistance) technology make HUR ideal for active aging, physical therapy, and older adult exercise. Seniors train harder with lower risk of injury, yielding faster results. With HUR’s solutions, you can help them develop stronger bodies, minds, and character and give them the strength they need to be well.
